Sometimes the water
needs to be so hot it brands

My mind wanes, foggy,

darting past old ghosts.

Trees

The trees stand up tall,

proud and majestic, soaring,

unafraid of life.

Little monsters

They come raining down,
sharp, thorny little monsters,
opening fresh wounds.

Spilled ink

I am a footnote,
a bent comma left behind
and quickly tripped past.

But if I could be,
I'd be a mess of spilled ink,
staining ev'rything.

Watch the yellow sun
slide down a blue sky, slinking
into the gray waves.

The rhythm quiets;
we pause and wait for the next.

Moving in tandem,

the music is only now;

sweet moment, fleeting.

Blue skies sing to me,

calling my eyes upward, like

flowers to the sun.

Chicago summer,

caress me with your light breeze.

I remember and

Dawn

As dawn slips to day:

bodies tangled, entwined, still;

breath, hushed, warm and sweet.

Bloom

The cherry blossoms,

bright and praising the sun like

a heart in love, bloom.

Fluttering stillness.
